Congress MP Rajiv Satav died at a private hospital in Pune today, days after recovering from coronavirus infection, hospital sources said. The 46-year-old leader was on ventilator support at the hospital after his health deteriorated. Satav, considered close to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, had tested positive for coronavirus infection on April 22. Satav was later diagnosed with a new viral infection and was in a critical condition. (PTI)

In a meeting of the ICMR-National Task Force for COVID-19 on Friday, all members were in favour of removing the use of convalescent plasma from the Clinical Guidance for Management of Adult COVID-19 Patients citing its ineffectiveness and inappropriate use in several cases, they said. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) will issue an advisory on the matter soon, they said.

The Tamil Nadu government floated a global tender to procure 3.5 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines yesterday to administer to those in the 18 to 44 years age group. The move follows a recent announcement by Chief Minister MK Stalin that the state government will float global tenders to procure COVID vaccines to be given to those aged 18 and above. The government sought a delivery schedule of 180 days progressively from the date of purchase order for 3.5 crore (35 million) vaccines for Rs 2,00,00,000 (20 million). The last date for submission of tenders is June 5 at 11 am, as per the tender floated by Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation (TNMSC) on the day. (PTI)
